κρομπος

κρομπος
κρομπος
Grammatical information: ?
Meaning: `a piece of land'
Other forms: with sec. vowel κορομπος (Schwyzer 664, 12; 16, only dat. sg. -ποι; Orchom. in Arcad., 369a).
Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]X [probably]
Etymology: Fraenkel IF 41, Anz. 21 f. considers a meaning `fold, trough, cleft', which would make possible connection with OHG hrimfan `wrinkle, curb', OCS krǫpъ `small', Lith. krumplys `finger-knuckle' etc. (Fraenkel Lit. et. Wb. s. kremblỹs, Pok. 948f.) Most words are Germ. or Balto-Slav., so non-IE? - Fur. 381 considers the word as Pre-Greek because of the anaptyctic vowel (see pp.378-385).
